Sounds scary, right? Don’t worry, it’s not that type of hacking.

"A hackathon is an event when people meet to build stuff.” -Wikipedia

Hackathons provide a venue for self-expression and creativity through technology. People with technical backgrounds come together, form teams around a problem or idea, and work together to create a unique solution from scratch  - these can have many forms.

Hack Park hopes to bring together over 50 students from schools across the area for one of the most high-energy weekends of their lives. Students get to the hackathon, and, within a couple hours, are working furiously on a project with a group of people that they may have just met. Over the course of the weekend, they learn how to work with new technologies, hopefully finish what they set out to build.

Through workshops, mentors, mini-events, games, and team-building, participants will be able to create their project, grow their network, and learn exciting new concepts all in one night. If you've never coded or done anything like this before, don't fret! You're not alone. Come and learn something new.

Projects can take many forms: AI, design/animations, hardware, robot mazes, websites, servers, graphic arts, VR games, video games, Java programs, Arduino, etc etc. However, we encourage you to be creative. Whatever you are building, the goal is to start from scratch and end with a working prototype. Hack Park lasts from 24 hours and is filled with food, caffeine, prizes, and, you guessed it, creativity. After time runs out, teams demo what they’ve built and compete for prizes.

TL;DR: at a hackathon, people come together and use technology to build something cool.
